I took the plunge and spent the time to change my blog design into something more customized.
I used a free design courtesy of leeloublogs, her link is at the bottom of my page. She warned that I needed to save all of my extra stuff on the sides, and I thought I had until I pushed the 'OK' button and then none of it came back up! AAHHH!!! but it will be worth it to put all that back on, now that I have this BEAUTIFUL blog!
I can't wait to see more of her gorgeous FREE designs!

I stumbled upon the fact that Friday is Slurpee day at 7-11!!! Funny thing is that Friday 7-11 is my wedding anniversary! we love slurpee's!! not the reason we got married on 7-11 it just worked out that way!

For some reason I have been seeing this book referenced all over the place! It's not new or anything but for me it is!
I haven't read a book for fun in like 3 years! OH I've read tons of books for work, like how to run your classroom library, and tons of children's books, latest one was Mrs. Smith's incredible storybook, which I highly reccommend for K-2 kids. but as far as a book for my enjoyment, it's been years. so since this book has been coming into my view so much lately I decided to pick it up at Target the other day. I like the Wizard of Oz, not obsessed with it, but it's a classic for me.
My goal is to read it before August 11th. because that's when i go back to work and then I'll be back to reading teachery stuff and 1st grade books again!

Starts June 30th!!!

The Star Thrower Story by Joel Barker
There's a story I would like to share with you. It was inspired by the writing of Loren Eiseley. Eiseley was a very special person because he combined the best of two cultures. He was a scientist and a poet. And from those two perspectives he wrote insightfully and beautifully about the world and our role in it.
Once upon a time, there was a wise man, much like Eiseley himself, who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work. One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer, he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?" The young man paused, looked up and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked, Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."
"But young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves. "It made a difference for that one!"
His response surprised the man. He was upset. He didn't know how to reply. So instead, he turned away and walked back to the cottage to begin his writings.
All day long as he wrote, the image of the young man haunted him. He tried to ignore it, but the vision persisted. Finally, late in the afternoon he realized that he the scientist, he the poet, had missed out on the essential nature of the young man's actions. Because he realized that what the young man was doing was choosing not to be an observer in the universe and make a difference. He was embarrased.
That night he went to bed troubled. When the morning came he awoke knowing that he had to do something. So he got up, put on his clothes, went to the beach and found the young man. And with him he spent the rest of the morning throwing starfish into the ocean. You see, what that young man's actions represent is something that is special in each and everyone of us. We have all been gifted with the ability to make a difference. And if we can, like that young man, become aware of that gift, we gain through the strength of our vision the power to shape the future.
And that is your challenge. And that is my challenge. We must each find our starfish. And if we throw our stars wisely and well, I have no question that the 21st century is going to be a wonderful place.

Birthday Mailbox

I made this Mailbox for a very dear friend who will be celebrating a bday this week. I used some of the Martha S. bandana paper. The bandana paper has a very different feel to it, it's almost like a fabric texture, very light. I had tried the mailbox thing before, looked at lots of tutorials on how to do them but with no luck. I see now that i was using very heavy cardstock and I had a real hard time getting it to be flexible. This Martha S paper was perfect for the mailbox!! I really like the way it turned out! I made 3 peppermint sandwiches and the little empty note cards will be made into "coupons". One for lunch - my treat, and the other for a free night of babysitting (she has a 5 year old, who I adore!!!)
Since this one turned out so good, I might actually try another since I have about 20 more mailboxes sitting in my closet!!! Can you relate??

I had 2 weddings to attend this Memorial day weekend. Both were not formal weddings, one was just a BBQ to honor the newlyweds and the other was at a park. I cased the cuttlebug cake from someone on SCS, don't remember who at the moment. I really like the way it turned out. I plan to make up somemore to have on hand. I think it could also lend itself to birthdays too.

I made this card for the teacher that i did my internship with almost 20 years ago!! Hard to believe I've been teaching that long!! She has since moved on to become a principal and now she has retired from the public school system and taken a job as a principal at a local church school. She was an awesome teacher to do my internship with and I hope that i can someday be as good as she was!!

they stamp so nicely and are super easy to color, even for me who tends to be coloring challenged!
the background paper I picked up from Joann's recently , a paper stack with tons of pretty glittery papers! Perfect for a 5 year old.

brookes' birthday bucket

I got this bucket after Easter, it had pics of the Easter bunny on both sides so i figured I could cover it with paper and make it a birthday bucket for Brooke in May.
I don't know about anyone else but i have a terrrible time getting paper to stay around something round that is not even. what i mean is that the top of the bucket is bigger than the bottom so you have to taper off the paper to make it even. That is what the ribbon around the top and bottom is for! so you don't see how uneven the paper is!!
Note to self: no matter how cheap the container is. if it tapers off at the bottom, don't buy it, thinking OH I can do it!!!
I used some SU paper on the front and back, and used Sizzix letters to spell out her name.
Here again, I almost had to change her name to Broke, cause both those 'O's didnt want to fit nicely across the bucket!!
next post will be her card which I liked a lot better than the bucket!!

Cinco De Mayo cosmobella

I made this for a coworker with a bday on Cinco De Mayo. I had the base of the card for a while I made it at a class about a year ago. I knew I wanted to make her bday card with cosmobella, so i thought she might fit in that space and she did perfectly!! The cheer on the bottom is a rub on I've had for at least 2 years. i got a sheet of them at the dollar store before they were so popular!! I think she will really like it. i like the way it turned out. i have about 10 bella's now and this is the 1st one i've inked up. very easy to color and work with.

Today I walk into the office( I work in an elementary school) and I notice a gorgeous handmade card hanging on the bulletin board. With in 3 seconds I recognize the paper as scenic route, I recognize a cuttlebug embossed phrase! I'm thinking who made this? Because I know there are only about 4 of us that do paper crafts at my school, so I read it and it is from our new Data Prep that works in the office. So I go in her office and say "are you a stamper or a scrapper?" she replies 'both'!!! so we chatted about crafting for about 5 minutes, till i had to go get me kids from lunch. Darn work interferring with my crafting connections!! As my husband would say " We are everywhere!!!!"
can't wait to have more than 5 minutes to chat with her about stamping!!

DB day 3 card challenge

today's challenge cards for Denise B. I made a pocket card, but wasn't sure if that qualified as a funky fold, I also made a buckle card.

the rules were: 1) It can be any size card but can not fold in half 2) It must be decorated on the inside and outside 3) You must spell out a word using stickers, thickers, die cuts or alphabet stamps 4) It has to have polka dots.

I used my sizzlets alphabet - Fruit smoothie for the lettering. The pocket card will be for a coworker who is leaving. I think I'll turn the buckle card into a bday card for another coworker.

The paper is from Scenic Route, which next to SU is some of my favorite decorative paper!!

Looking forward to tomm's challenge!!

DB day 2 card challenge

today's challenge was Black and white, no background paper and use only black ink.
My 1st thought was to use my long neglected Stinkin Cute set (skunks) but then as I pulled it out I found all these other neglected sets that might also look nice in a black and white setting!
So I stamped out the skunks and the lighthouse and the truck. Then as I started creating I found that I liked the truck and lighthouse cards better than the skunk!!
I also am finding that I have way to much stuff that I never use! For the lighthouse I set the image to the side so I could put white eyelet to the other side. Well I have about a million eyelets in all sorts of pretty colors and shapes, but hardly any whites!!! I could only find white in hearts and flowers, so I went with the flowers.
Can't wait till tomm. I'm starting to love challenges!!

I actually needed to make a card today, because a coworker, (teacher) was bitten by a child today. He bit hard enough to draw blood!! It now is a big ordeal, because she will have to get Rabies shots, and be tested for HIV! Scary stuff. so I wanted to make her a card to show I'm thinking of her as she goes thru this tough time.

An ex boyfriend died a little over a year ago . i saw his obituary in the paper, but didn't go to the service. we dated over 15 years ago and i've since been married for over 10 years and just didn't want to go to the service. It looked like he had never married, there were no survivors other than his parents and siblings.Any way he(ex boyfriend) has been on my mind lately, in my dreams, I hear (our) song on the radio frequently which is unusual, and today I swear it was like I was talking to him.
But it was a guy at Staples that struck up a conversation with me and he had all the same mannerisms as my dead exboyfriend!!my ex was very friendly and a bit excentric (sp?) so this guy at Staples is very friendly while we are waiting in line, and talkative with me, and then he pulls out some dime out of his pocket and starts telling me it's worth $250 cause it's a misprint, etc there is the excentric part, and I swear I just had this feeling of Wow this guy is so much like my dead exboyfriend. it was wieird!!Now this guy is about my age I would guess, so it is not true reincarnation but what would you call it???

Cramps and Valentine's

I'm the one with the massive cramps, but somehow Muffin spend most of the time on the heating pad!! Silly kitty!!!
I got this idea from Emily athttp://emilygiovanni.com/ she melted crayons and made crayon muffins. Well I got the little heart tins from the $store and made skinny crayon hearts to give to my students for Valentine's Day! Emily suggested using Crayola's I believe she said the other cheaper brands didn't melt as well. So I took her advice and used a few weeks worth of Michael's coupons to get enough crayons! I would say I used 4-5 crayons per heart, I am rather impatient so I set the oven at 500 and it took about 3-4 minutes to melt them, then you put them in the freezer and take out when they are done!! Super fun! I might do it again for Easter if I can find egg shaped tins!

Teachers cry too!!!

My school has been having a major growth spurt this year and we have been adding kids like crazy!!

Well a week ago my principal announced that we were adding a 1st grade unit. In January!!
that hasnt happened in many years! So we all had to give a few kids to start up the new class.
I only had to give 2 but some of my teammates had to give 4!!! We had to give our best, no behavior or academic problems. Which believe it or not after having these kids for 95 days it's hard to give any of them away! Even the ones that get bad notes every day!!
So we brought the kids to their new teacher today and we all sat in a circle and talked about how exciting this whole thing will be and that they were special to be chosen in the new class and then it happened... one little girl started crying... well eventually all the adults 6 of us were crying too!! We muddled thru, to keep a smiling face for the kids but it was so hard!!
So if your kids have ever had to change teachers, please know that it is super hard for the teachers to give up those little darlings too!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!! As a stamper and a 1st grade teacher this totally blew me away!! I just happen to have that book and I think she has about 5-6 more that follow the same pattern, moose with a muffin, pig with a pancake, etc.

Here is a fun little story that was written in the form of Laura Numeroff's story, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Any stamper, as addicted to the craft as most of my readers are, will relate to this. So without further ado, here is If You Give a Girl a Stamp by Tracy Harp (aka LodiChick)
If You Give a Girl a StampBy Tracy Harp
If you give a girl a stamp she‘ll want to make a card…she’ll need an ink pad to go with it. She will spend hours pouring over colors trying to decide just the right one to buy. In the end she’ll decide she just can’t choose so she’ll buy them all.
Then she’ll remember she’ll need card stock to match the ink so she’ll quickly add four packs of assorted paper to her list, oh and white, vanilla, black and kraft!
Reading about certainly celery, purely pomegranate, pale plum and pumpkin pie will make her hungry so she’ll go to the kitchen for a snack. While munching on cookies she’ll realize she needs ideas of what to do with the stamp. She’ll go to her computer and google rubber stamping.
She’ll find a site called Splitcoaststampers. Wow!! So many techniques and ideas and a gallery that never ends. She’ll spend hours gazing at beautiful cards and projects. Her eyes will become dry from staring at the computer screen. She’ll go to the bathroom for some drops.
On the way, she’ll pass her family sitting at the kitchen table waiting for dinner. She’ll quickly heat up some leftovers and try to pretend she hadn’t forgotten. While talking about the days events, her son will bring out the school pictures he had gotten that day.
That will remind her she wanted a digital camera to take pictures of her cards so she can start her own SCS gallery. She’ll convince hubby of all the reasons the “family” needs a new camera. He will finally agree and she’ll head to the store to buy one.
On her way home she’ll pass by Joanns and remember she needs an Ott-Lite to go with the camera she just bought. While shopping for a light she’ll see aisles of paper, punches, embellishments and ribbon. She’ll pick out a cart full of items but realize they don’t carry THE punch she saw used on a card she saved to her favorites. She’ll return home and go back to Splitcoaststampers to find out where to get THE punch.
Her search will lead her to someone’s blog where she’ll see a Starbucks bottle made into a cute candy container. That will remind her she has some bottles in the recycling bin so she’ll go to the garage to rescue them from the trash.
While in the garage she’ll see her son’s bike which will remind her she needs to buy a new helmet for his birthday. Thinking about birthdays will remind her she wanted to bake some cupcakes for him to take to school.
As she walks to the kitchen she’ll pass by the table and see the stamp. The stamp will remind her that she wanted to make a card and she’ll probably want some…

Hot Chocolate Rak's

I made these after seeing so many cute ones on SCS! I had a bit of a hard time with the cover, I guess I just can't cut straight!!

I put a pack of hot chocolate and a little pouch of cookies in each one.

I just made a few, cause Florida weather can be unpredictable in the winter and one day it can be 50 and someone would want hot chocolate, but the next day it might be 75 and then who want's HOT chocolate!!

No Reason Roses

I got these gorgeous Roses from my husband about a month ago, between my bday and Christmas. So they were no reason Roses! I think in almost 15 years of being together he has only given my roses a handful of times! So when I get them they are pretty special!
I love the way Muffin is looking at them!

Help my School reach a Reading Goal

I teach in an Elementary school, and we have a program called READING COUNTS, it's a reading comprehension computer based program that our kids Kindergarten thru 5th grade use. We are having a contest this year, that if the school can earn enough points, the administration will dress like ROCK STARS at the end of the year. We did this last year and the administration had to kiss a PIG! it was so much fun, the kids get so motivated!!
Here is my request, if anyone has any 'rock' type stamps and would be willing to either make a card or send me just the stamped image(then I can make the card)
I would use the cards to further motivate my kids and if I get enough I will give them to the committee who runs this program to give to the older kids as they reach their personal reading goals.
I hope someone can help me with this request!!!

New Year's resolution

I'm depressed! I knew I had gained some weight since I stopped working out, and I've not at all been watching what I eat, but somehow I thought that wouldnt matter when i got on the scale! Well i finally dragged my large butt to Curves to work out today and when i got on the scale I wanted to cry!!! I am officially the biggest I've ever been in my life! I've gained about 10 lbs over the last 4 months.
That's bad! So I really need to stay on task with my resolution of working out on a regular basis and keeping the goodies as a treat and not my whole meal!

Hopefully I'll be able to make more posts that i have been a good girl!

I make one of these about a year ago for a different friend but I had a different layout on the container. I like this way much better. These are the little containers everyone on SCS was getting at Staples a while back. I paid .50 cents for it, and now I wish I had bought all that they had!!!

I made these at a class at one of my local Scrap stores. They are bigger than the ones you get at Michael's. We painted them, which I had not thought of doing before! I had only seen ones covered with decorative papers. The letters were painted and then glittered.
I wanted to add some ribbon when I got them home, but I showed them to my Mom as is and she wanted them! so I left them as is for now!

I made this card for a coworker who was our 1st grade assistant last year, but has now moved into her own class as a 3rd grade teacher. I was happy for her cause I knew she wanted her own class, but sad for me cause she was such a good assistant!
I used chipboard letters from J's and colored them with Real Red ink. I used Karen Foster snap stamps for the lettering and the new SU scallop punch for the border.
I like the way it turned out! the background paper is from Scenic Route, I love their papers!

I was surfing the Blogs and came across a similar article but about dogs. So since I have a cat Baby I found this one more appropriate for my Blog!

I 'cased' this card from SCS. I just got the Fruit set about a month ago at a stamp sale.

Brooke's bday

It's hard to believe that Brooke is already turning 4 in few weeks! I saved a card that Mytime did on SCS that was the inspiration for this card. I glittered it up with Stickles on the hat and flowers. I love that Turtle! It was so easy to work with. The hard part was that darn grass! Hand drew it. (like you cant' tell?)

Cased Baby card

Well the layout was Cased from Michelle on SCS. I needed to make a baby card for a coworkers baby shower. I am impressed that the shower is next week and I actually have the card done ahead of time!!
I'm not sure about the ribbon, I almost feel like it overwhelms the rest of the card...
But I do like the over all effect and I'm happy with it!!!

Bunny Bags

The inspiration for these punched bunnies came from the mega talented stampers at SCS.
I made a few for some friends and thier kids for Easter. This one had a 'booboo' so he got the ear down, but in retrospect it actually looks kinda cuter that way!!
OH and since I havent posted in like 2 months.... keeping up a blog is harder than I thought it would be! Big Kudos for all those ladies who post daily with awesome creations!
Big thanks to my small following who have now got me up to over 300 hits. I"m amazed!

Cuttlebugitis

So I've been watching the threads on the Cuttlebug closely on SCS and I've been drooling over the gorgeous cards in the gallery that have been created using the Cuttlebug embossing folders... and I have finally purchased my 1st!!! I have a Sizzix and a converter so I figured with a 50% off coupon from Michael's I couldnt really go wrong! I didn't have much to choose from but I went with the Swirl. and I love it!

I went to Joann's this weekend and they have a lot more to choose from but they were out of stock on everything!
So I will need to start Stalking Joann's waiting for the next shipment of Cuttlebug embossing folders. I'm still on the fence if I want the actual machine. I'm going to a class this coming weekend and will get to play with an actual 'bug' so I can decide if I want the 'bug' after I play with it.

I made these 2 cards for a friend who will be celebrating a bday this weekend. Her husband is throwing her a surprise party She is turning the big 50, so I had to make 2 cards. One to give her at work - like I normally would, and one for her at the party!
I also made her a Frap bottle with Pink m&m's that uses the same papers as the 2nd card.
I have seen so many wonderful cards using the chipboard letters and this was my 1st attempt on the 1st card. it was a little more tricky than I thought when cutting out the letter for the paper to show thru. But it turned out OK, I think....

Remember one of my resolutions? to spend more time on my cards? well here is a great example. i made the 1st card and thought 'OK" it's worthy of mailing to someone, but then I thought 'hmmmmm' what if i spend just a bit more time on it? and so there you have the 2nd picture. Plus I used up some scraps on the flowers! bonus!!

I made this card for a swap I joined. I was inspired by Gina K to use fabric on the card. The center of the cirle is a fabric swatch, and the ribbon/bow is fabric also. A few years back I had the delusion that I was going to learn to sew. I made one pillow case for my stepdaughter and stopped at that! Of course I had bought quite abit of cute fabric that I was going to use on all my wonderful 'sewing' projects. Good thing I'm such a packrat and the fabric is still sitting in the closet!

Just Blah Blah Blah

I hope to do some stamping tonight but for now I just want to say today at school was one of the longest days!!!!
Today was the 1st day back after winter vacation, I teach 1st grade. The kids were sleepy, I was sleepier, and I desperately wanted to be browsing on SCS all day!!!

Over the vacation I did get to catch up on a few movies. We saw Rocky, I liked it. My DH and I give movies a grade A-F, easy to figure, I gave it a 'B'. we also saw Good Shepard, I gave it a 'B' also. Then we rented Wicker Man, i gave it a 'D', and we watched on HBO Brokeback Mountain, I gave it a 'C'.

OK time for a nap!!!

Wow! 2007 already? Where has the time gone?

Here are the 1st 2 cards of the new year ;-)

These cards are done with a few of my New Year's resolutions in mind.

1. to spend more time on my cards, I tend to get in a rut and crank out cards that all look the same to me.

2. To use more embellishments - when i see others using buttons, eyelets, brads, ribbons, etc i get so excited... but then when i make a card I revert back to my usual layouts, with no embellishments.

3. To stop HOARDING!!! The background paper is new, but the buttons are old. I love them and I was amazed at how well the colors matched!

A seperate resolution is to spend more time posting on this blog. i like it and when i see others blogs again I get excited and think 'ew i want to do that on my blog' but then i spend 3 hours on SCS gallery and nothing gets done over here!!!

I did finally figure out how to get the Hit counter attached to my blog and it is pretty motivating to see the numbers rise daily! Thanks!

And i think I will add a section to my Blog - it's called the Blah, blah, blah section. I'd like to keep my Blog focused on my cards + creations, but i do like to babble about other stuff too!

So when I get to the Blah, blah, blah part you can keep reading or move onto the next blog - your choice, I won't be offended!!

I recently fell in love with Double sided Paper!!! I have some but never quite appreciated it, or realized how AWESOME it can be.

I picked up some at my LSS on sale and decided to play around with some different card layouts.

Being double sided made things so easy. Obviously both side complement each other so layering and pulled up corners work out perfectly!

Christmas cards that is!!! I thought I had made enough this year for everyone on my 'nice' list.
but as the days get closer, I am finding that I am scrambling to make last minute cards. Hence the 2 week interval since my last blog update.
On SCS I found a great idea to make 10 christmas cards every month, starting in January and then by December you would have plenty of cards. Well this almost worked except, I didn't find SCS till about March or April and then i didn't see the post till about June. so I made about 15 20 a month, give or take and yet somehow i still didnt' have enough!!
What I hate is now I am not taking the time to do my 'best' work on these last minute cards. But I know that the recipients will still appreciate a handmade card from me! at least they better or next year the will be on the 'naughty' list!!!

Pocket cards

I needed to make a few thank you cards today, so I decided to make them Pocket cards!
I had made some a few months back and really liked them. The background paper is from DCWV from thier Fall matstack. The front words are rub on's that I bought at the $$ store last year. The cardstock itself I have no idea! I am really bad at mixing all kinds of CS together because I usually cut it and keep it together by colors. The letter stickers were also from the $$ store.

DOG SLOBBER!!!

So I take my adorable Snowman Soups over to my Mom's today. She loved them! Well so did her dog( my furry little sister) DAISY! I let her sniff them and with in SECONDS she slobbered on one of them and the ink ran!!! and the paper has now wrinkled up/warped! I swear she did not have her snout near it for more than 5-10 seconds, cause as soon as I saw that polka dot tongue (she's a mutt, but we know she is part Chow because of the black spots on her tongue) I pulled the paper away but it was too late! She must have some powerful SLOBBER!!!
So I need to redo one of my Snowman soups before they get sent to CT for my young cousins.
OR we could send this one as is and say DAISY made it!!!

A good day

Today was a good day!!! I had lunch with 2 very good old friends, one lives a few hundred miles away and was in town for the holidays so we all had lunch without the kids. Grown ups only!

I love thier kids but it's nice to have a meal and talk without little ears listening!!!

Then my husband and I went down to the beach to our new favorite spot, a little pier off the main road, and watched the pelicans having thier dinner for the day.

I may use this pic for my holiday cards because my husband hates having his pic taken so for me to get a pic with him smiling is pretty unusual!!!
